Me at work...back in the day
Artist Biography
I’ve been in the glass business for over 16 years. I was a musician for 25 years before I decided to pursue a new profession. I have always been interested in glass art. When I moved to Seattle after living in Hawaii for several years, I found that Washington was an excellent area to learn what I wanted to know about glass. I worked with stained glass long enough to master the concept of it and quickly became bored with just making stained glass items. One day I was selling my stained glass items to a fellow glass artist who owns an “Artglass” store in Seattle, we talked about the art of fused, or melted glass for several hours. They told me they happen to have an extra kiln in the back that they would sell cheap… that started my “glass melting madness”. I discovered that I easily picked up everything I could learn about the art like a sponge. I learned everything from simple fusing to glass blowing and the the elaborate chemical combinations that produce extraordinary colors! One day I was looking through some glass in a glass store in Seattle when I spotted a very shiny piece of glass in a box on the shelf. I asked the clerk what that type of glass was since I had never seen anything so amazing! That’s when I learned, to my surprise, about “DICHROIC GLASS”. Also, to my delight, this incredible material was made particularly for fusing and blowing! That’s how my love for it started. I eventually took several classes in some glass schools in the Seattle area. I eventually started a business producing my art before I moved back to Hawaii. I lived on Maui for about five years before moving to Oregon. I started my business in Hawaii by selling primarily to tourist at craft fairs. After about 3 years of constant fairs I decided that I really needed to sell to stores and galleries in Hawaii. I quickly realized that, by doing this, I was able to spend more time on my art and less time moving my tent from place to place! I'd been selling strictly wholesale for over 2 ½ years in Hawaii. I’m hoping that Oregon will enjoy what I create at least as much as Hawaii did. I enjoy craft fairs and SOME wholesaling now. I just enjoy people and selling things I create especially for you.
